Iranian Kurdish exiles in Iraq express hope for return if Iran's theocracy falls
Thousands of Iranian Kurds living in exile in Iraq since Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution say they will only return home if a new Iranian government is installed that guarantees their safety and supports their goals for political autonomy. More than 300 families live in Kawa Camp in northern Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region, where they lack citizenship and full civil rights. Many express guarded hope that current U.S.-Israeli tensions with Iran could weaken the theocracy that forced them into exile.
