Woman dies after falling into uncovered maintenance hole in Midtown Manhattan
A 56-year-old woman died after falling into an open maintenance hole near Fifth Avenue and East 52nd Street in Midtown Manhattan on Monday night, shortly after exiting her vehicle. Police found her unresponsive at the bottom of the hole, and she was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Con Edison said it was investigating how the hole came to be uncovered.
