Marina Volz, a 37-year-old transgender inmate serving 25 years at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Clinton, New Jersey for human trafficking and child sexual abuse material production, sued the prison in 2023 alleging religious discrimination. Volz, who identifies as Wiccan, demanded accommodations including the ability to conduct nude rituals, maintain a garden, and access religious items. The case is reportedly in settlement negotiations with the state attorney general's office.
