Texas Supreme Court rejects removal of Democratic lawmakers who fled state during 2025 redistricting special session
The Texas Supreme Court denied Gov. Greg Abbott's effort to remove more than 50 Democratic lawmakers who fled to other states in 2025 to block a vote on new congressional maps. The all-Republican court ruled that the Democrats had not vacated their offices and that the legislature had adequately resolved the quorum issue through fines and the lawmakers' voluntary return. Abbott had sought their removal as punishment for the quorum break.
