Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa resigns over government handling of Ukrainian drone incursions
Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa resigned on Thursday after her coalition government lost its ruling majority when the Progressives party withdrew support over her firing of Defence Minister Andris Sprūds. Siliņa dismissed Sprūds over the government's handling of Ukrainian drones that strayed into Latvian territory from Russia, citing a May 7 incident where two drones exploded at an oil storage facility and the army's failure to detect them. Latvia's president will meet with party representatives on Friday to discuss formation of a new government ahead of October elections.
