Tourist arrested for throwing rock at endangered Hawaiian monk seal
Igor Mykhaylovych Lytvynchuk, 38, of Covington, Washington, was arrested by federal agents near Seattle and charged with harassing a protected animal after a witness video showed him throwing a coconut-sized rock at an endangered Hawaiian monk seal named 'Lani' off a Maui beach. The incident occurred in Lahaina and was investigated by a state Department of Land and Natural Resources officer. When confronted, Lytvynchuk allegedly claimed he was wealthy enough to pay any fines.
