Russia places UK former Defence Minister Ben Wallace on wanted list

Russia's Interior Ministry has added Ben Wallace, who served as UK Defence Minister from 2019 to August 2023, to its wanted list in connection with an unspecified criminal investigation allegedly related to terrorism charges. Wallace has been a vocal advocate for increased military support to Ukraine and in October 2023 recommended that Ukraine strike the bridge connecting Russia to annexed Crimea. The move follows a Russian regional lawmaker's call in October for Wallace to be added to the wanted list over his public comments about Crimea.

The split, in one line
Al Jazeera provides context on Wallace's Crimea strike recommendation and his advocacy for Ukraine; Reuters headline alone offers no substantive framing of the underlying basis for the charges or Wallace's role in the Ukraine conflict.
