United States announces release of 53.3 million barrels from Strategic Petroleum Reserve

The US Department of Energy announced on Monday the transfer of 53.3 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve through an emergency exchange programme coordinated with the International Energy Agency. Contracts were awarded to nine companies including Trafigura Trading LLC (13 million barrels), Marathon Petroleum (12.4 million), and ExxonMobil (11.4 million), with remaining barrels distributed among BP, Phillips 66, Macquarie, and others.
