Virginia Democrats appeal to US Supreme Court to restore redistricting map after state court struck it down

Virginia Democrats filed an emergency appeal with the US Supreme Court on Monday seeking to restore a congressional map approved by voters in April, after the Virginia Supreme Court struck it down 4-3. The state court ruled the Democratic-controlled legislature improperly began the ballot amendment process after early voting had begun. Separately, Democrats discussed a proposal to lower the mandatory judicial retirement age to 54 to force out the current Virginia Supreme Court justices.

The split, in one line
Conservative outlets focus on Democrats violating their own constitution and scheming to annihilate a court; mainstream outlets treat it as a legal longshot over proper procedure and frame the court-clearing plan as a circulating idea, not a scheme.
