US Court of International Trade rules Trump's 10% global tariffs illegal in 2-1 decision
A three-judge panel of the US Court of International Trade ruled 2-1 on Thursday that President Trump's 10% across-the-board global tariffs, imposed in February under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, are unlawful. The court found the administration failed to demonstrate a 'balance-of-payments deficit' as required by the 1974 statute, invalidating the tariffs for the small business plaintiffs. The Trump administration filed an appeal the following day, and the tariffs are expected to remain in effect for other importers while the appeal proceeds.
