China sentences two former defense ministers to suspended death sentences for corruption.

China's military court sentenced former defense ministers Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu to death with a two-year reprieve on May 7, following convictions for bribery. After the reprieve period, their sentences will be commuted to life imprisonment without possibility of parole or commutation. Both men were stripped of political rights for life and had all personal assets forfeited.

The split, in one line
Coverage largely agrees on the facts but splits on emphasis: some outlets foreground Xi's sweeping military purge and its breadth across the PLA, while others focus narrowly on the sentencing itself as a legal event, and a few note critics' view that the campaign targets political rivals.
