California Coastal Commission settles lawsuit with SpaceX and apologizes for political bias
The California Coastal Commission issued a formal apology to SpaceX in a legal settlement, acknowledging that commissioners made politically biased statements against the company and CEO Elon Musk during October 2024 hearings on Falcon 9 launch frequency increases at Vandenberg Space Force Base. The commission agreed in the court filing not to consider political beliefs or speech of SpaceX or its officers in future regulatory decisions. SpaceX had sued the agency after it rejected the company's request to increase launches, with backing from the U.S. Air Force.
