Two wildfires in southeastern Georgia destroy over 120 homes and remain largely uncontained
Two wildfires in southeastern Georgia continued burning on Saturday, with the Highway 82 Fire destroying at least 87 homes and a second fire in Clinch and Echols counties destroying at least 35 more. Both fires were approximately 10% contained as of midday Saturday, with strong winds expected to accelerate their spread. Scientists attribute the unusual wildfire activity to extreme drought, gusty winds, climate change, and debris from Hurricane Helene.
