Gunman opens fire at Teotihuacan pyramids near Mexico City, killing one Canadian tourist and injuring 13 others.

A lone gunman, Julio César Jasso, 27, opened fire on tourists atop the Pyramid of the Moon at the Teotihuacan archaeological site outside Mexico City on Monday, killing one Canadian tourist and injuring 13 others before shooting himself. Jasso reportedly timed the attack to coincide with the anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting and Adolf Hitler's birthday. Mexico's government subsequently pledged to boost security at tourist sites ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will co-host with the United States and Canada in summer 2025.
