Myanmar junta chief Min Aung Hlaing nominated for presidency in parliament
Myanmar's military leader Min Aung Hlaing has been nominated for the presidency as parliament convened following a general election from which major opposition parties were excluded. He was nominated alongside two loyalists who are unlikely contenders, making his selection virtually certain. The nomination comes after elections held between December and January that were widely criticized as illegitimate.
