Afghan man who worked with US military dies in ICE custody in Texas
Mohammad Nazeer Paktyawal, a 41-year-old Afghan asylum seeker who worked with US forces in Afghanistan, died at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on Saturday after being detained by ICE on Friday. He was taken into custody during a targeted enforcement action and died less than 24 hours later after complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath. ICE said he had previously been arrested for fraud and theft related to food benefits, though advocates say he was never charged or convicted.
