Human Rights Watch reports Burkina Faso military kills more civilians than jihadist groups
Human Rights Watch released a report finding that Burkina Faso's military and allied militias killed over 1,200 of the 1,837 civilians who died between January 2023 and August 2025, more than jihadist groups. The report documented 57 incidents and accused government forces of ethnic cleansing against Fulani civilians. HRW said President Ibrahim Traore and senior commanders should be investigated for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
