Burkina Faso military leader Ibrahim Traoré tells state television that people should forget about democracy
Burkina Faso's military ruler Ibrahim Traoré told state broadcaster RTB on Thursday that people should "forget about democracy" calling it "not for us" and claiming "democracy kills." Traoré, who took power in a September 2022 coup, had initially promised elections by 2024 but extended his rule until 2029 and banned all political parties in January. He cited Libya as an example of failed Western-imposed democracy.
