Malaysia's Umno pays Najib Razak's 50 million ringgit fine, clearing path to house arrest
Umno, the party Najib Razak once led, paid a 50 million ringgit (US$12.3 million) court fine on Friday, a condition of a royal pardon granted in September. The payment allows Najib to serve the remainder of his 1MDB-linked corruption sentence under house arrest until August 2028, after more than four years in prison. Umno said the money came from a public fundraising campaign launched September 18.
