Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar wins a 12th House term in his Texas border district

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) defeated Republican Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina to win a 12th term in a South Texas district redrawn in 2025 to favor Republicans. Cuellar led with roughly 66% of the vote when the Associated Press called the race. Cuellar and his wife had been indicted on bribery and money laundering charges in 2024 and were pardoned by President Trump in December 2025.

The split, in one line
Both report the win and the pardon; one frames it as beating a top GOP recruit despite a redrawn map and a pulled $3M super PAC buy, the other leads with pardoned by Trump and the indictment.
