Bangladeshi garment workers protest for higher minimum wage as factories face disruption

Thousands of garment workers in Bangladesh protested for a third day across industrial hubs including Mirpur, Savar, Ashulia and Gazipur, demanding a minimum monthly wage of 30,000 taka ($242), more than double the current 12,500 taka ($101). Police used tear gas and sound grenades against demonstrators, and about 500 factories were temporarily shuttered. The government formed a new wage board on Sunday to review the minimum wage.
