Pope Leo XIV met Villanova and Notre Dame basketball teams at the Vatican ahead of their season-opening game in Rome.

Pope Leo XIV greeted players, coaches and fans from Villanova and Notre Dame in the Vatican audience hall on Saturday. The two Catholic universities' men's and women's teams play a doubleheader Sunday at Rome's Palazzo dello Sport in the season opener, an event dubbed the Eternal City Tip-Off. Leo, born Robert Prevost and a 1977 Villanova graduate, joked that the pope is neutral in sports but "Prevost has another opinion."
