US core capital goods orders rose 0.5% in September, shipments up 1.2%

The Commerce Department's Census Bureau reported that non-defence capital goods orders excluding aircraft rose 0.5% in September after an unrevised 1.6% gain in August, below a Reuters poll forecast of 0.7%. Core capital goods shipments rose 1.2% after a 0.6% increase, feeding into the GDP equipment-spending component. Business equipment spending has posted two straight quarters of double-digit growth, driven largely by AI investment.
