Federal judge rules Maurene Comey's firing by the Trump administration was unlawful and orders retroactive reinstatement and back pay.

U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman ruled Monday that the Justice Department unlawfully fired Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York and daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, in July 2025. Furman found the firing violated the Civil Service Reform Act, the separation of powers, the Administrative Procedure Act and Comey's Fifth Amendment due process rights, rejecting the administration's Article II removal-power argument. He ordered retroactive reinstatement and back pay through Dec. 20, when she took a private-sector job.
