Justice Department's National Crime Victimization Survey reports violent crime victimization fell 25% in 2025

The Bureau of Justice Statistics released preliminary National Crime Victimization Survey findings showing violent victimization excluding simple assault fell 25% and property crime victimization fell 19% from 2024 to 2025. The Trump administration credited immigration enforcement, drug and gang crackdowns for the declines. The survey was redesigned in January 2025, and DOJ statisticians said the new estimates are not directly comparable to prior methodology.
