Justice Department expands election monitoring to all 50 states ahead of 2026 midterms

The Justice Department is deploying roughly 1,000 poll monitors nationwide for the 2026 midterms, more than double the ~400 sent in 2022. Notifications have gone to counties in Georgia, Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, Minnesota, Colorado and other states. Some state officials, including Democrats and Kansas's Republican secretary of state, have questioned the effort's purpose or effectiveness.
