Archdiocese of New York agrees to an $800 million settlement with about 1,300 clergy sexual abuse survivors.

The Archdiocese of New York reached an $800 million settlement with roughly 1,300 people who filed clergy sexual abuse claims, ending more than seven years of litigation. Archbishop Ronald Hicks confirmed the agreement in an email to clergy, and the parties are scheduled to sign it the week of November 6, 2026. It is the second-largest such settlement in the US, behind the Archdiocese of Los Angeles's $880 million deal in 2024.
