Bank of Israel and opposition leaders reject Netanyahu's proposal to use cryptocurrency to circumvent potential international sanctions.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a Friday interview that Israel should prepare for possible banking sanctions and asked advisers to draft a plan involving cryptocurrency and blockchain. On Saturday the Bank of Israel said digital currencies cannot be used to bypass sanctions and urged preserving ties with trade partners. Opposition leaders Gadi Eisenkot and Naftali Bennett condemned the proposal, with Eisenkot calling it a threat to national security.
