US and Israel appear poised to resume major strikes on Iran after the November midterms, with Qatar-led mediation underway to avert war.

The US and Israel have been waging a war on Iran since February 2026, paused since April. As of late October, officials and sources say a renewed, larger bombing campaign is likely shortly after the November 3 midterms unless a diplomatic deal is reached. Qatar, with Saudi, Turkish, Pakistani and Egyptian support, is mediating talks aimed at getting Iran to allow UN inspectors into its nuclear sites in exchange for sanctions relief and access to frozen funds.

The split, in one line
The wires and Israeli press frame a looming post-midterms strike as near-inevitable; the left frames it as an unpopular war Democrats could stop and voters demanding it end. Same war, opposite protagonists.
