A 36-year-old British woman died in the Bahamas after being swept away while trying to rescue her two sons from a strong current during a snorkelling trip.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force said the woman was snorkelling with her husband and two sons near the southern point of North Bimini on Tuesday when a strong current swept both children away. She was also swept away attempting to rescue them; the children were rescued, but she was pronounced dead at a local clinic. Police said foul play is not suspected and an autopsy will be conducted.
