The Pentagon designated Confucius Institutes in the US as a national security threat.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced in a social media video that the Pentagon added Chinese-funded Confucius Institutes at US universities to its list of institutions threatening national security. Hegseth said 80 "propaganda cells" operating under new names at 30 universities had been dismantled over the past two months. The Chinese embassy in Washington did not respond to a request for comment.
