Asian Football Confederation head endorses Gianni Infantino for another FIFA presidential term

AFC president Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa endorsed Gianni Infantino for a fourth term as FIFA president at the AFC's extraordinary congress in Tokyo on Friday. The endorsement reverses the AFC's stance from about two months earlier, when it joined European and North American bodies in accusing Infantino of a "fundamental breach of trust" over a scrapped $4.2bn private investment plan. The FIFA election is in March, with a November 18 candidate filing deadline and no challengers filed so far.

The split, in one line
Both outlets run near-identical wire copy; the only daylight is Al Jazeera's framing of the endorsement as a U-turn and its note that the $4.2bn plan would have sold a stake including the World Cup.
