A Lauderhill, Florida police officer was arrested and charged with felonies for allegedly using a dead man's identity to take control of his home.
Lauderhill police officer Brian Sguros, 35, found 71-year-old Dennis West dead of natural causes during a 2022 welfare check and is accused of using West's identity to pay taxes and utilities and obtain permits to take control of the roughly $400,000 home. He was arrested this week and charged with five felonies including official misconduct and criminal use of deceased personal identification. Sguros claims he took possession to prevent squatters and spent over $200,000 of his own money on repairs.
