New York City Council voted to ban horse-drawn carriages in Central Park by June 2028.

The New York City Council passed Romanch's Law, banning horse-drawn carriage rides by June 1, 2028, following the June death of 18-year-old tourist Romanch Mahajan. The bill requires Mayor Zohran Mamdani's office to develop a workforce transition plan by April 2027 for roughly 150 drivers. The Transport Workers Union vowed to challenge the ban in court.
