Democratic lawmakers say classified briefing showed Russia running a misinformation campaign targeting Democratic candidates ahead of the 2026 midterms

Senator Mark Warner and Representative Jim Himes said after a classified election security briefing from Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton that Russia is waging an online misinformation campaign against Democrats in the November 2026 midterms. They cited AI-generated fake ads targeting James Talarico in Texas and Jon Ossoff in Georgia, and said they could not disclose classified details. The White House, ODNI and the Russian embassy did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
