Federal judge restricts DHS noncitizen-voter field operations in nine states through Election Day

U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín issued a Wednesday order barring DHS from conducting election-related field operations and interviews in California, Connecticut, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wisconsin targeting people who are or could reasonably be U.S. citizens. She found the initiative likely violated the Voting Rights Act's ban on voter intimidation and relied on flawed data. The order was stayed until 5 p.m. Friday to allow appeal and runs through Election Day, Nov. 3.
