Elon Musk's SpaceX throttled Starlink/Starshield service for Ukraine's military, then restored it after a week-plus of restrictions.

SpaceX restricted the speed of Starlink and Starshield satellite service used by Ukraine's military starting around October 13-14, 2026, hampering drone operations and interceptor defenses. Elon Musk initially said the US government controlled Starshield limits, but on October 24 he acknowledged SpaceX had throttled the service, citing Ukraine's use for offensive drone strikes. Ukraine's defense ministry said full speeds were restored on October 24 after what it called direct dialogue and diplomacy by President Zelensky.

The split, in one line
Outlets split on who ordered the throttle: some lead with Musk acting unilaterally, others with White House coordination, while several note Trump's premature claim it was already restored before Kyiv confirmed.
