Indonesia officials meet MSCI and pledge market reforms after index provider opens downgrade consultation

MSCI announced on Friday it was launching a formal consultation on whether to reclassify Indonesia from emerging market to stand-alone status, citing opaque ownership structures, concentrated shareholdings and coordinated trading. On Monday, Indonesia Stock Exchange officials met MSCI online and laid out reform measures, including removing stocks with concentrated ownership. MSCI's final decision is expected by June 30, 2027.
