Iranian officials say Tehran is prolonging US talks to influence the November 3 US midterm elections

Senior Iranian officials, speaking anonymously, told Reuters that Tehran has deliberately extended negotiations with Washington to weaken President Trump politically ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. The war began in February when the US and Israel struck Iran, and Iran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz since then. Iran's proposal, relayed via Qatari mediators, would reopen the strait within seven days under Iranian control if the US lifts its maritime blockade, eases oil export restrictions, releases frozen assets and ends hostilities.
