Florida issues an arrest warrant for former Cuban president Raúl Castro over the 1996 downing of two Brothers to the Rescue planes.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced that a state judge signed an arrest warrant charging 95-year-old Raúl Castro with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the February 24, 1996 shootdown of two unarmed Brothers to the Rescue aircraft, which killed four men. The state action follows a federal indictment unsealed in May 2026 over the same incident. Castro is believed to be in Havana, and an arrest is unlikely in the near term.
