Alberta holds a referendum vote on whether to pursue separation from Canada

Albertans are voting in a referendum on whether to remain a province or begin the legal process toward a future separation referendum. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney campaigned in Calgary urging Albertans to vote to stay in Canada, warning that the United States is trying to break Canada apart. More than one million early votes were cast before the main voting day.
