Federal judge blocks Trump administration tree removal at East Potomac Golf Course and demands answers

U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes issued a temporary restraining order halting further tree removal at East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C., after the Trump administration cut down hundreds of trees over the Columbus Day weekend with less than a day's notice to the court and plaintiffs. During an emergency hearing Monday, Reyes berated Justice Department attorneys, saying the government had lost all credibility with her, and ordered top Interior Department and National Park Service officials to testify. On Tuesday, Reyes extended the halt through October 26 and required the administration to provide three business days' written notice before any irreversible modifications to the course.

The split, in one line
Most outlets emphasize the judge's fury and the administration's bad faith; Washington Examiner leads with the procedural order and Interior's stewardship defense, giving more weight to the government's framing that the removals followed a 2019 maintenance plan.
