UAE announces Flydubai co-pilot planned 9/11-inspired suicide attack on Ben Gurion Airport

UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif al-Shamsi announced on October 9, 2026 that Flydubai co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami, an Omani national, planned to crash a Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flight into Ben Gurion Airport's passenger terminal on September 30, 2026. The suspect confessed to acting alone, used two prior flights to familiarize himself with the route, and reportedly became radicalized while studying in Australia in 2017. The plane was ultimately diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia after passengers and crew overpowered al-Hammami.
