EU and China reach agreement to reduce Chinese hybrid car exports to Europe
The EU and China reached a 16-point agreement under which China would cut exports of hybrid cars to the EU by more than half over the next four years. The deal, announced by EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič in Beijing on October 9, 2026, also covers rare earth export licenses and EU food and drink access to China. It is described as the first time China accepted export moderation without prior trade tension under WTO rules.
