ABC asks federal judge to block FCC early review of broadcast licenses

ABC and parent company Disney sued the FCC after Commissioner Brendan Carr ordered eight ABC-owned stations to submit license renewal applications years ahead of schedule in April 2026. At a hearing on October 6, 2026, ABC argued the review was retaliation for content disliked by President Trump, while the Justice Department argued the court lacked jurisdiction and the review was tied to a DEI investigation. Judge Loren AliKhan did not immediately rule and requested additional briefs.
