Cornell University appoints Sally Yates to review handling of Jane Doe rape allegations

A former Cornell student filed a civil lawsuit in September 2026 alleging she was drugged and gang-raped by seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity in October 2024. Cornell University appointed former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates to conduct an independent review of the school's response to the allegations. New York Governor Kathy Hochul appointed state Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor after the local DA initially declined to file charges and then reopened the case.
