Kenya confirms first Ebola case and death in patient who returned from Congo

A Kenyan citizen who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo for seven years fell ill, traveled via Uganda to Nairobi on October 3, tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, and died on October 5. Kenya is the fourth country to record a case in the current outbreak, which was declared in eastern Congo in mid-May and has recorded over 8,000 cases and more than 4,000 deaths. Health authorities identified 28 contacts and were tracing 23 passengers and four crew members from the patient's flight.
