Federal judge reinstates court-appointed U.S. attorney in Seattle fired by Trump

U.S. District Judge Stanley Bastian ruled that President Donald Trump could not fire Roger Rogoff, a U.S. attorney appointed by district court judges in the Western District of Washington on July 15, 2026. Bastian granted a preliminary injunction reinstating Rogoff and barred the Justice Department from replacing him. The DOJ said it disagrees with the ruling and will appeal.
