Supreme Court agrees to review Trump's mandatory immigration detention policy

The Supreme Court granted review of Rhoney v. Barbosa Da Cunha, a case challenging the Trump administration's policy of detaining immigrants without bond hearings during removal proceedings. The administration reinterpreted the 1996 Immigration and Nationality Act to mandate detention for people in the country illegally, a policy lower courts have rejected over 20,000 times. Arguments are expected in early 2027 with a decision by late June 2027.
