Trump announces $200 billion in South Korean energy investments including $54 billion Alaska LNG pipeline
President Donald Trump announced on September 30, 2026, that South Korea will invest $200 billion in U.S. energy projects, including $54 billion for an Alaska LNG pipeline. The investments stem from a $350 billion trade deal signed with South Korea in November 2025, in which the U.S. lowered tariffs on South Korean cars and auto parts in exchange for investment commitments. The announcement was made at a White House event attended by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan, who faces a competitive reelection race against Democrat Mary Peltola.
